Special Teams Spark Maple Leafs In Shutout Of Bruins
Toronto, Ontario – The Toronto Maple Leafs improved to 2-0 on the preseason with a 4-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Penalties Prove Costly For Bruins
The Leafs’ special teams were the difference in the game, as they converted two power plays and killed off all four of Boston’s chances with the man advantage.
William Nylander opened the scoring for Toronto on the power play in the first period, and Calle Jarnkrok made it 2-0 in the second with another power-play goal.
Penalty Kill Shuts Down Bruins’ Attack
The Bruins had a few good chances on the power play, but they couldn’t beat Matt Murray, who made 16 saves for the shutout.
“Our penalty kill was excellent tonight,” said Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe. “They’re a very dangerous team on the power play, so for us to kill off all four of their chances was huge.”
Nylander Continues To Impress
Nylander has now scored three goals in two preseason games and looks like he’s ready to take the next step in his career.
“I’m just trying to play my game and help the team win,” said Nylander. “It’s always nice to score goals, but the most important thing is that we’re winning.”
Looking Ahead
The Leafs will continue their preseason schedule on Wednesday night when they host the Ottawa Senators.
