Al Roker Shares New Details of His Health Crisis
Al Roker, the beloved weatherman and TV personality, has shared new details about his recent health crisis, which landed him in the hospital for two weeks in November.
A Blood Clot in His Leg
In a new interview with People magazine, Roker revealed that he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg. The clot, known as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), formed in his calf and traveled to his lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism.
“I had no idea,” Roker said. “I didn’t have any symptoms. I wasn’t short of breath. I wasn’t coughing. I didn’t have any chest pain.”
A Wake-Up Call
Roker’s health scare has been a wake-up call for him. He has since been taking blood thinners to prevent further clots and has made changes to his lifestyle, including losing weight and exercising more.
“This has been a real eye-opener,” Roker said. “I’m so grateful to be alive. I’m going to make sure I take care of myself and live a healthy life.”
The Importance of Early Detection
Dr. Ankur Pandya, a cardiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, said that Roker’s story is a reminder of the importance of early detection of blood clots.
“Blood clots can be very dangerous if they’re not treated promptly,” Pandya said. “If you have any symptoms of a blood clot, such as swelling, pain, or redness in your leg, it’s important to see a doctor right away.”
Looking Ahead
Roker is now back at work and recovering from his health crisis. He is grateful for the support of his family, friends, and fans, and he is looking forward to a healthy future.
