Stoughton, MA – Authorities have activated an Amber Alert after a 2-year-old girl was abducted by her father from her home in Stoughton.

The child, identified as Lily Grace, was last seen around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10th. Her mother, Sarah Jones, reported her missing after her estranged husband, David Smith, failed to return Lily after a scheduled visitation.

Police believe Smith may be driving a dark blue Toyota Camry with Massachusetts license plate 456-ABC. He is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with brown hair and green eyes.

“We are treating this as a parental kidnapping,” said Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara. “We have reason to believe that the child may be in danger.”

Jones, speaking to reporters, expressed her desperation to find her daughter. “I just want my baby back,” she said through tears. “I don’t know what he’s going to do to her.”

Smith has a history of domestic violence, according to court records. He is also facing child neglect charges related to a separate incident.

Experts say that parental kidnapping is a serious and prevalent crime. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 2,800 parental kidnappings occur in the United States each year.

“These cases are often complex and can be very challenging to resolve,” said Dr. Susan Scott, a forensic psychologist who specializes in child abduction. “The key is to act quickly and to mobilize all available resources.”

Police are urging the public to be vigilant and to report any sightings of Smith or Lily Grace. They are also offering a substantial reward for information leading to the child’s safe return.
