Brian Schottenheimer to Helm the Dallas Cowboys as Head Coach

Schottenheimer to lead the Dallas Cowboys

Brian Schottenheimer Named Head Coach of Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their 10th head coach, concluding a comprehensive interview process that spanned the week. The official announcement will be made at a press conference on Monday, January 27th, at 11 a.m. CT.

Schottenheimer, the son of coaching legend Marty Schottenheimer, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He joined the Cowboys in 2022 as a coaching analyst and quickly rose through the ranks, assuming the offensive coordinator position in 2023 following Kellen Moore’s departure. Notably, both Schottenheimer and Moore were contenders for the head coach vacancy, with Moore recently interviewing virtually before guiding the Philadelphia Eagles to the NFC Championship Game.

A Seasoned Coach with a Rich Resume

Despite not calling plays during the McCarthy era in Dallas, Schottenheimer boasts a more extensive coaching resume than Moore. His journey began as an assistant for the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs in the late 1990s, followed by a stint as wide receivers coach at USC. In 2001, he returned to the NFL as quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders.

Schottenheimer has held various coaching positions, including positional roles and offensive coordinator, for approximately 28 years. He is embarking on his first head coaching role after emerging as one of the leading candidates for the Cowboys’ vacancy.

Challenges Ahead for the New Head Coach

Schottenheimer faces an immediate challenge as he steps into the head coach position. The Cowboys have witnessed the departure of four assistant coaches, including Al Harris, during the search for McCarthy’s successor. He will need to swiftly establish his presence and rally the team amidst this coaching turnover.

The Cowboys are confident in Schottenheimer’s abilities to lead them to success. His extensive coaching experience, coupled with his familiarity with the team’s system, positions him well to guide the Cowboys towards their goals.
