Cam Heide, Myles Colvin Make Most Of First Career Starts As
Green Bay, Wis. – Cam Heide and Myles Colvin made the most of their first career starts as the Packers defense forced three turnovers in a 23-16 preseason win over the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night.
Heide’s Interception Leads to Packers’ First Touchdown
Heide, a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin, picked off Bryce Perkins in the first quarter and returned it 26 yards to the Rams’ 11-yard line. Three plays later, Aaron Rodgers hit Romeo Doubs for a 7-yard touchdown pass to give the Packers a 7-0 lead.
Colvin Shines In Pass Rush
Colvin, a fifth-round pick out of Georgia, recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss. His first sack came on the Rams’ opening drive, and his second came in the fourth quarter to force a punt.
Defense Forces Three Turnovers
In addition to Heide’s interception, the Packers defense also forced two fumbles, one by Eric Stokes and one by Rudy Ford. The turnovers helped the Packers keep the Rams out of the end zone and hold them to just 16 points.
Rodgers Looks Sharp In Limited Action
Rodgers played the first two series of the game and completed 4 of 6 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 9 yards on one carry.
Packers’ Offense Still Struggling
While the defense played well, the Packers’ offense struggled for much of the night. The starters only managed 7 points on three drives, and the backups failed to score a touchdown.
What’s Next
The Packers will host the Cleveland Browns in their final preseason game on Aug. 29. The regular season begins on Sept. 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.
