Lock Signs with Giants

Former University of Missouri quarterback Drew Lock has found a new home in the NFL, signing a one-year contract with the New York Giants. The 26-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks before being traded to Denver in 2022.

Giants in Need of Stability

The Giants are hoping Lock can provide stability to a quarterback position that has been in flux since the departure of Eli Manning. Veteran Daniel Jones has struggled with consistency, and the team lacks a proven backup.

“Drew Lock has the potential to be a solid addition to our team,” said Giants general manager Joe Schoen. “He’s a talented quarterback with a strong arm and athleticism.”

Lock’s Journey

Lock had a breakout sophomore season at Missouri in 2017, throwing for 3,964 yards and 44 touchdowns. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round in 2019 but struggled to unseat Russell Wilson as the starter.

In Denver, Lock started 17 games over two seasons, completing 57.3% of his passes with 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He was released by the Broncos in August.

Outlook for Giants

Lock is expected to compete with Jones for the starting quarterback job. If he can overcome his accuracy issues and improve his decision-making, he could be a valuable asset to a Giants offense that features wide receivers Darius Slayton and Kenny Golladay.

“I’m excited to get to work and earn the trust of my teammates,” Lock said. “I believe we can have a successful season in New York.”
