Lions Cornerback Amik Robertson Fractures Arm, Sidelined for Divisional Playoff Game
Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson sustained a season-ending arm fracture during the team’s 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in Saturday’s divisional playoff game. The injury occurred on the second play of the game while tackling Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin. Robertson immediately exited the field visibly distressed.
The Lions also faced several other injuries throughout the game. Quarterback Jared Goff was evaluated for a concussion after taking a hard hit while defending a potential pick-6. Goff missed one possession before returning to the game. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater filled in during Goff’s absence and led the team on a touchdown drive.
In addition to Robertson’s injury, Commanders guard Sam Cosmi suffered a knee injury during the second quarter. Cosmi’s right leg appeared to buckle awkwardly as he attempted to block for running back Brian Robinson. Cosmi limped off the field and was later ruled out of the game.
Robertson’s absence presented a significant challenge for the Lions’ defense, which was already depleted due to injuries. Robertson had played exceptionally well in the team’s previous game, effectively containing Minnesota Vikings All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson.
The injury woes continued for the Lions as receiver Olamide Zaccheaus departed the game in the second quarter with a groin injury. Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu also aggravated a hamstring injury in the third quarter.
The Lions’ playoff hopes were ultimately dashed by the Commanders, who controlled the game from start to finish. Despite several key injuries, the Lions fought valiantly but were unable to overcome the deficit.
The Lions will now enter the offseason with a focus on addressing their injury concerns and rebuilding their roster for next season.
