Pitt’s offense struggled to gain traction throughout the game. Quarterback Kedon Slovis completed just 17 of 33 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown, but he was also intercepted twice. The running game was also ineffective, as Israel Abanikanda averaged just 3.1 yards per carry and scored no touchdowns.
Pitt’s defense allowed Boston College to rack up 404 yards of offense. Eagles quarterback Phil Jurkovec threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns, while Alex Broome led the rushing attack with 128 yards on 22 carries.
Pitt’s season has ended in disappointing fashion. After starting the year 4-1, the Panthers lost five of their last six games. The loss to Boston College marks the first time Pitt has lost four straight games since 2015.
Pitt will now turn their attention to the offseason. The Panthers will need to address several areas of concern, including their offense and their defense. Offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. has been under fire all season, and his future with the program is uncertain. Defensive coordinator Randy Bates will also be under pressure to improve his unit.
Pitt’s 2023 schedule has not yet been released, but they will likely open the season at home against Western Michigan. The Panthers will also face Penn State, Syracuse, and Louisville in non-conference play.
