Resetting Ohio State's Depth Chart After Its First Two Games Of 2024

The biggest changes have come on offense. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been benched in favor of sophomore Kyle McCord. McCord started the season as the backup but has shown flashes of brilliance in limited action. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has also reshuffled the wide receiver depth chart, with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba now listed as co-starters.

“We need to get our offense going,” said Wilson. “We’re not putting enough points on the board, and we need to shake things up.”

The defense has also undergone some alterations. Linebacker Steele Chambers has been elevated to the starting lineup, while safety Kourt Williams has been replaced by Jaheim Singletary. Head coach Ryan Day hopes these changes will improve the team’s pass rush and overall coverage.

“We’re not generating enough pressure on the quarterback,” said Day. “And we’re giving up too many big plays.”

Players have reacted to the changes with a mix of emotions. Stroud expressed disappointment at being benched but said he would support McCord as the team’s new quarterback.

“I’m going to work hard to earn my spot back,” said Stroud. “But I’m rooting for Kyle to succeed.”

Ohio State faces a challenging schedule in the coming weeks, with games against Wisconsin and Penn State on the horizon. Day hopes the depth chart changes will spark a turnaround and lead the Buckeyes to a successful season.

“We have a lot of talent on this team,” said Day. “We just need to find a way to put it all together.”
