Timothée Chalamet Visits Minneapolis to Discuss New Bob Dylan Film
The Academy Award-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet recently visited Minneapolis to promote his latest film, “A Complete Unknown,” a biopic chronicling the early career of legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
Chalamet, who portrays Dylan in the film, spoke at an advance screening in December and shared his thoughts on Dylan’s deep connection to Minnesota, his birthplace and early stomping grounds.
Exploring Dylan’s Minnesota Roots
Although “A Complete Unknown” does not feature any scenes shot in Minnesota, Chalamet immersed himself in the state’s cultural landscape to prepare for his role.
He visited Duluth and Hibbing, where Dylan spent his formative years, and even surprised students at Hibbing High School’s drama department.
This firsthand experience gave Chalamet a deeper understanding of Dylan’s roots and the influence of his Minnesota upbringing on his music and worldview.
Chalamet’s Perspective on Dylan’s Heritage
“I think he’s very proud of his Minnesota heritage,” Chalamet said. “In some ways, I relate to it because I think the iron ore in his songs and the iron ore in his voice are symbolic of the strength and resilience of his character.”
As a New Yorker, Chalamet admitted that his path would likely not have crossed with Dylan’s if not for his role in the film. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to explore this iconic figure and his Minnesota connections.
‘A Complete Unknown’ and its Oscar Nominations
In addition to Chalamet’s Best Actor nomination, “A Complete Unknown” has received nominations in several other categories, including Director, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design, and Sound.
The crime musical “Emilia Pérez” leads the pack with 13 nominations. The full list of nominees for the 97th Academy Awards can be found on the official website.
