
Tulane Green Wave Stomps Southeastern Louisiana In Season Opener
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane Green Wave football team opened its 2016 season with a dominant 49-21 victory over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Yulman Stadium on Saturday night.
Dominant Performance
The Green Wave took control of the game from the outset, scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions. Quarterback Tanner Lee threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Darius Bradwell rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown.
“We played with great energy and focus tonight,” said Tulane head coach Willie Fritz. “Our offense was clicking on all cylinders, and our defense was stout. It was a great way to start the season.”
Defense Stands Tall
In addition to their offensive firepower, the Green Wave defense also played a key role in the victory. They held Southeastern Louisiana to just 21 points and forced four turnovers. Defensive end Patrick Johnson led the way with three tackles for loss and two sacks.
“We played with great intensity and passion tonight,” said Johnson. “We knew we had to come out and set the tone, and we did that. We’re excited about the rest of the season.”
Looking Ahead
With the victory, the Green Wave improve to 1-0 on the season. They will host the Maine Black Bears next Saturday at Yulman Stadium.
Southeastern Louisiana falls to 0-1 on the season. They will host the McNeese State Cowboys next Saturday in Hammond, Louisiana.
