“Kelsey Plum is a true icon of Washington Athletics and a role model for aspiring student-athletes everywhere,” said Jennifer Cohen, Director of Athletics. “Retiring her jersey and celebrating her countless accomplishments is a fitting tribute to her legacy.”
Plum, a two-time All-American and the Pac-12’s all-time leading scorer, led the Huskies to their first NCAA Final Four appearance in 2016. She was also the first player in Division I history to score 3,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 500 rebounds.
“It’s an incredible honor to have my jersey retired at Washington,” said Plum. “This university and the Seattle community have given me so much, and I’m forever grateful for their support.”
The Forever 10 celebration will include a video tribute to Plum’s career, a halftime ceremony where her jersey will be unveiled on the rafters at Alaska Airlines Arena, and a postgame autograph session with fans.
Plum’s jersey retirement is a significant milestone for women’s sports at the University of Washington. She joins only two other women to have their jerseys retired, Anne Donovan and Nancy Lieberman.
“Kelsey Plum’s impact on women’s basketball at Washington cannot be overstated,” said Head Coach Tina Langley. “Her determination, skill, and leadership set a new standard for our program.”
The jersey retirement and Forever 10 celebration are expected to draw a large crowd of fans and supporters, including many who witnessed Plum’s remarkable career in person. It will be a memorable day for Washington Athletics and a lasting tribute to one of the most decorated players in college basketball history.
